Basilica di San Lorenzo
(Basilica of St Lawrence) was the town church of The Medici family. It is another masterpiece created by Brunelleschi who was commissioned to rebuild the church in Renaissance style in 1419. Michelangelo also contributed greatly to the appearance of San Lorenzo. He created the tombs of the Medici, and the library with its magnificent staircase.
Cappella dei Principi
(Principi Chapel) is the family mausoleum of the Medici which was lavishly decorated by Matteo Nigetti in 1604. In the nave are several bronze pulpits created by Donatello which were finished by his students in 1460. The dome of San Lorenzo resembles the one of the Duomo
and was finished by Buontalenti.
