Königssee (see means lake) is located in Berchtesgaden National Park in Bavaria. The park is situated at the south-east part of Germany close to Austria. Lake Königssee is the highlight of the Berchtesgaden National Park, Germany. It is 190m deep and 8 kilometers long and is surrounded by mountains.
To explore the lake you can take an electric boat ride to St. Bartholomew, enjoy the splendid views, visit the church and have a lunch at the nearby beergarden. The guide on the boat plays a trumpet solo to reveal the remarkable echo in the mountains.
Königssee is the cleanest lake in Germany. They use electric boats, pedal boats and rowboats. Even the sewage from the St. Bartholomew church and the beer garden is caught in pipes that go under the lake and disposed into the villages’ sewer system. Nothing goes into the water. The park and the lake are so clean they got the name “Biosphere Reserve” by Unesco.
