Distillery Historic District - Distillery Historic District information and pictures

The Distillery Historic District is a very popular tourist attraction with live music, entertainment, a lot of restaurants and boutiques. It was founded in 1832 by William Gooderham and James Worts (the Gooderham and Worts Distillery) immigrants from England and brothers-in-law.

The Distillery district is situated in downtown Toronto on 13 acres of land. The buildings are very well preserved and are a perfect example of Victorian Industrial Architecture in North America.

In the 90’s the Distillery ceased operation and became the number one film location in Canada. Movies like Chicago, The Recruit, Cinderella Man, Vendetta, The Man, X Men, Don't Say a Word were shot here.

In 2003 the Distillery officially opened its doors to the pedestrian - only village dedicated to entertainment, arts and culture. It has 6 restaurants, 17 art galleries, 19 Artists studios, 4 cafés, theatres and spa. The distillery district is a very charming place with European feel and piazza styled spots. The Distillery District also hosts numerous events and festivals throughout the year.
Toronto is doing a good job of reviving the industrial downtown area and Distillery District is surely an example.
