Frauenkirche - Frauenkirche information and pictures

Frauenkirche (The Church of Our Lady), is a very popular landmark in Munich. Frauenkirche is the largest church in Munich located in the heart of the city at Frauenplatz 1. The twin domes are the most recognizable symbol of Munich.

Frauenkirche is a huge building consecrated by Duke Sigismund in 1468 and finished in 1525. In the crypt were buried the members of the Wittelsbach family who ruled Bavaria for almost 4 centuries.

It is been said that inside the church you could see the “devil’s footprint”. According to one of the legends the builder made a deal with the devil. The deal was that no windows will be built but the devil was tricked by the builder. He built columns which were hiding the windows from that particular spot. The devil was so mad that he was fooled that he stomped very hard on the floor and left his footprint.
