Hôtel de Ville - Hôtel de Ville information and pictures
Hôtel de Ville
(City Hall) is the official residence of the mayor of Paris
. The building that we see today was built in the 19th century as a replica of the 17th century building which was destroyed by fire in 1871.
Hôtel de Ville is adorned with many statues, 108 to be exact, representing French cities and notable Parisians. The central tower of Hôtel de Ville holds a clock and is decorated with 3 female statues.
The interior is quite exquisite – it features long ballroom (Salle des Fêtes)
, beautiful staircase decorated with chandeliers, statues and coffered ceiling.
The charming square in front of Hôtel de Ville, Place de l'Hôtel de Ville
was once a place for hangings and has a bloody history but today is one of the most pleasant squares in all of Paris with its beautiful fountains which are illuminated at night.
