Central Park is the perfect place for relaxation for the New Yorker. Central Park is a large green space in the heart of Manhattan and accommodates The Central Park Zoo, The Belvedere castle, The Reservoir, two skating rinks, The lake, the carousel, The Boathouse Restaurant, children’s playgrounds and the MET.

Central park was designed by Frederic Law Olmstead and Calvert Vaux in 1850. The park is 2.5 miles long (4 km)

The Central Park Zoo dates from the mid 19-th century. The current zoo was built in 1988 and houses 450 animals. The Central Park Zoo is a favorite place for children to enjoy wild animals in the middle of urban Manhattan.

The Lake is a romantic gateway from the city’s hustle with the weeping willows and the rowboats. You can even arrange a gondola rides.

The Boathouse Restaurant is open from the middle of April to November. The Boathouse has an outdoor bar and a café and is very popular during the summer months.

The Reservoir was created in 1862 and was in use until 1994. It is now only a backup for emergency water supply. It is surrounded by a path perfect for jogging and walks along the water. The Reservoir was renamed "Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis Reservoir" in 1994.

The great lawn was designed for picnics and games. Belvedere castle was built in 1869 and sits at the highest point in the park.

The MET – Metropolitan Museum of Art is opposite the Great lawn. It attracts 5 million visitors every year. It houses collections from nearly all cultures and ages.

Columbus Circle was completed in 1905 and is the entrance to Central park and an intersection where 8th avenue, Broadway, Central Park West and Central Park Sough meet. Christopher Columbus monument is erected in the center of the circle.

Also a popular thing in Central park is to hire a horse drawn carriage. It is a nice and romantic way to explore the park and enjoy a relaxing time.

Where is Central Park: 59th to 110th Streets and from Fifth Avenue to Central Park West.

How to get to Central park: subway A,B,C,D, 1 to Columbus Circle.
